Hormone Pellet Therapy
Hormone therapy comes in many forms including pills, creams, gels, and patches. One option you may not be aware of is the hormone pellet, which utilizes bioidentical estradiol and testosterone formulated into a pellet, the size of a grain of rice, which are painlessly inserted under the skin in the upper buttocks. Pellets deliver a steady lose dose of hormones for 3-4 months at a time. Pellets tend to mimic normal physiologic production of hormones. Levels are higher when active during the day and lower when resting or asleep.
Hormone pellets were originally developed in France in 1935 and first used in the United States in the 1940s.
Pellet Protocol
We usually require a baseline hormone measurement through blood tests. The pellet insertion takes a few minutes and is painless. The pellets are placed in the upper buttocks after being numbed with a local anesthetic. The procedure only takes 5-10 minutes. The pellets slowly dissolve overtime. Initially, you may need pellets every 3 months, but eventually the pellets may last 4-5 months. We require that you have your hormone levels checked 6 weeks and then 12 weeks after your initial insertion, to assure we are achieving the recommended hormone levels.
