What to Do After You Get Laser Hair Removal
Are you tired of waxing, tweezing, or shaving your body hair? If so, we may have the solution for you. Laser hair removal is a hair removal treatment that uses focused energy from laser light to damage hair follicles and minimize re-growth of the hair. It is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic treatments in the United States.
Laser Hair Removal: What to Do
Before Treatment
In the weeks before your laser hair removal treatment, avoid direct sun exposure. If this is impossible, use at least an SPF 30 sunscreen. Do not bleach, tweeze, wax, or use electrolysis or hair removal creams on the treatment area. Such activities will reduce the efficacy of the treatment.
In the weeks before your treatment, stop tanning, including self-tanning sprays and creams and tanning beds. The day before your laser hair removal treatment, you may be instructed to shave the area that will be treated.
On the day of your treatment, go to your appointment with no deodorants, lotions, or make-up on the treatment area. Your clothing should fit loosely and leave the treatment area easily accessible. Your clothing should also be comfortable.
After Treatment
After laser hair removal, avoid unprotected sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanning until all your treatments are completed. If exposure to the sun is unavoidable, use at least an SPF 30 broad spectrum sunscreen. Avoid shaving the treated area in the days following your treatment. Do not pick or scratch at the treatment area.
You should also not wax, bleach, tweeze, or use hair removal creams on the treatment area until all treatments have been completed. You may apply makeup, lotion, and other skincare products to the treatment area the day after treatment.
What to Expect During Treatment
Prior to your laser hair removal treatment, the hair that is to be treated may be trimmed to a length of just a few millimeters above your skin’s surface. The laser equipment will be calibrated based on the location, thickness, and color of your hair, as well as the tone of your skin. The outer layers of your skin will be protected. Before you leave, you may schedule your next treatment. The treatments will continue until the hair in the treatment area stops growing.
