A well-woman visit is a preventative care visit that provides an excellent yearly opportunity for women to review and update screening tests, address contraceptive needs, review health guidelines such as weight control and safe sex, and identify gynecologic problems for additional workup and management. The well-woman visit, itself is not well suited for the management of complex and/or multiple gynecologic problems, which distract from the preventative focus and disrupt the flow of the clinic for other waiting patients. When a significant gynecologic problem or complaint is identified, a problem visit or consultation is scheduled with the appropriate time, to allow for devoted attention to properly address the issue.
