Endometriosis Treatment in Jacksonville, FL
Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a disease defined as endometrial glands and stroma (part of the uterine lining) implanted outside the uterine cavity. The lesions are usually located in the pelvis on the ovaries and behind the uterus but can occur at multiple sites including the bowel, bladder, diaphragm, and lungs. Endometriosis is benign (not cancer) but causes inflammation, scarring and pain and can be responsible for painful periods, painful intercourse, chronic pain, and infertility. Symptoms can range from minimal to severely debilitating. Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent disease that affects women during their adolescent, reproductive, and even postmenopausal hormonal stages. A history of endometriosis is associated with increased risk of some cancers.
As fellowship-trained physicians we are experts in the diagnosis and medical and surgical management of endometriosis in all age groups.
