In-office Ultrasound
in Boca Raton & Boynton, FL
In-office ultrasound pregnancy is a diagnostic imaging technique used to visualize the growth and development of a fetus during pregnancy. It is a non-invasive, safe, and widely used method for monitoring pregnancy, calculating the due date, and identifying potential issues. Two types of ultrasound are commonly used during pregnancy: transvaginal ultrasound and abdominal ultrasound.
Transvaginal and Abdominal Ultrasound in Pregnancy
A transvaginal ultrasound is performed by inserting a small transducer into the vagina, which produces high-frequency sound waves that create images of the fetus and surrounding structures. It is commonly used in early pregnancy to detect it and evaluate the gestational age, the location of the pregnancy, and the number of fetuses.
On the other hand, an abdominal ultrasound is performed by placing a transducer on the abdomen and moving it around to produce images of the fetus and surrounding structures. This type of ultrasound is usually performed later in pregnancy, typically after the first trimester, to evaluate the overall development and well-being of the fetus and to check for any potential complications.
Both abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound pregnancy techniques are considered safe and painless. They provide important information about the pregnancy and help detect potential problems early, so prompt treatment can be initiated if necessary.
