Your doctor at Lake OB-GYN Associates of Mid-Florida, LLC determines the type of health screenings you need during your evaluation. Health screenings most often recommended for women include:
Pap smear
The Pap smear assesses your risk of cervical cancer. This test is conducted during your pelvic exam and requires a sample of cells from your cervix, which are then sent to a lab for evaluation. All women 21-65 should have a Pap smear every three years or as recommended by your doctor at Lake OB-GYN Associates of Mid-Florida, LLC.
Bone density testing
Lake OB-GYN Associates of Mid-Florida, LLC offers in-office dual X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scans to assess bone density and risk of osteoporosis. All women 65 and older should get a DEXA scan. Your doctor could recommend a bone density test earlier if you’re postmenopausal and you’ve broken a bone. DEXA scans are generally repeated every 2 years, unless otherwise indicated.
Mammogram
A mammogram is an X-ray that screens for breast cancer. Women should have a mammogram every year starting at age 40, or potentially earlier if there is a family history of breast cancer.
Lake OB-GYN Associates of Mid-Florida, LLC also offers an in-office ultrasound to confirm or rule out a gynecologic condition like ovarian cysts or uterine fibroids.
