Ear Piercing

Ear piercing is a popular cultural and cosmetic practice – but it comes with a risk of infection. If you’re going to have your child’s ears pierced, why not make sure it’s done in the safe, sterile, and professional environment of your pediatrician’s office?

As an added bonus, your doctor knows your child and can be on the lookout for any potential problems or issues that crop up during the procedure.

Newborn Care

Having a new baby is both exciting and scary. Our skilled and experienced pediatricians can help guide even the most nervous new parents on the best methods to deal with all the needs and challenges of having a newborn.

The most common type of newborn care offered at Day & Night Pediatric Services includes but is not limited to:

  • Breastfeeding and Other Feeding Challenges – We have a wealth of resources and guidance we can offer on this very important part of newborn care. Not only does breastfeeding help mother and child bond emotionally, but breastmilk contains all the nutrients a newborn needs and helps to build the baby’s immune system, lowering the risk of allergies, obesity, and more.
  • Diaper Rash – Skin problems are common in infants. This includes diaper rash and cradle cap. Our pediatric providers can help treat problems like these, as well as to help you understand which signs may indicate a more serious problem.
  • Colic – These notorious issues prevent sleep in parents and children alike. Babies who seem to endlessly cry or cough without any obvious reason why may have colic respectively. Our pediatricians can help with tips and tricks to help get you and your baby back to sleeping soundly.

Our pediatricians also treat and address other common newborn issues such as jaundice, abdominal or respiratory distress, ear infections, sleep problems, and much more.

Physicals

Physicals are the ideal type of preventive health care: a regular screening that examines a child’s growth and development for their age, or in anticipation of certain activities or settings. These visits can help keep children healthy and focused on issues relevant at that particular point in their lives.

The most common pediatric physicals we perform include but are not limited to:

  • Camp Physicals – This examination of your child is focused on whether your child is healthy and physically capable of participating in camp activities. Camps are usually held over the summer months, but can occur year-round, depending on the type of camp it is.
  • General Annual Physicals – Our pediatricians will conduct an overall assessment of your child, looking for any physical, behavioral, or mental health issues – both minor and serious. Annual physicals also include vision screenings as well as any necessary immunizations.
  • Pre-op Physicals – Typically done before an expected surgery, these pre-op physicals are conducted to ensure a child can safely undergo a particular medical procedure. This allows your doctor the opportunity to address any health issues that need treating before the surgery.
  • School Physicals – Sometimes referred to as a “back-to-school physical,” these examinations focus on whether a child’s development is healthy and age-appropriate. During a child’s school years, he or she undergoes significant physical changes in height, weight, and more. We document and monitor this each year to ensure the child’s growth remains on track. Also, we are happy to complete needed school forms attesting to your child’s health or fitness and immunization record.
  • Sports Physicals – These preparticipation physicals are typically required before a child is eligible to play in organized sports, whether at school or in the community. Our pediatricians examine your child to ensure he or she can safely play a specific sport. Even if a coach does not require a sports physical, we recommend children have one before joining the team to help avoid injuries or life-threatening conditions such as a serious heart problem.

Prenatal Visits

Pregnancy is a time of many changes. To ensure you are prepared for all the changes that will come after your child is born, it is recommended that a pregnant woman and her partner visit a pediatrician.

The visit can serve many different purposes, including:

  • Building a trusting, supportive relationship with the person who will become your child’s doctor
  • Anticipating possible challenges for mother and child after birth, such as postpartum depression, breastfeeding, etc.
  • Discussing parenting strategies and options, especially for mothers expecting twins or triplets, or if there are other children in the household
  • Receiving guidance on how to keep a child physically and emotionally healthy. This may include discussions on car seats, bedding, immunizations, and more.

While technically there is no child in the room during a prenatal visit, this visit can be one of the most important and rewarding visits of your pregnancy to properly prepare for and welcome your newest family member.

We also have the option of doing prenatal visits as a telemedicine. For your convenience this Prenatal visit can be done through telemedicine or telephone encounter.

Sick Visits

Same-day sick visits are necessary in certain situations.

Parents may want to consider taking their child to see a pediatrician if they are concerned about:

  • Earaches and sore throats
  • Fever
  • Possible allergic reaction
  • Asthma issues

While each child and situation is unique, by visiting your family pediatrician for these and other urgent-care needs, you ensure your child will be seen by a doctor familiar with you and him or her, and the acute health issue is appropriately treated.
