Expecting Parents

Choosing a Pediatrician

Congratulations on your exciting news, and thank you for visiting The Carithers Pediatric Group’s website!

Having a baby is one of the most rewarding experiences in your life. At Carithers Pediatrics we are committed to keeping your baby happy and healthy. Our family of provide the quality of care your child needs and the advice and counsel you want. We would be honored to welcome your family into The Carithers Pediatric Group.

Due to public health concerns surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic, we currently offer our monthly Expecting Parents Class via zoom. We highly recommended this class, as you will meet one of our pediatricians, learn about our practice and what to expect in the first few weeks of life. These classes are not required for your child to become a patient at Carithers Pediatrics.

Things for Expectant Parents to Consider

Delivery Day

When you go to the hospital on delivery day, the hospital staff will ask you who you’ve chosen as your pediatrician; let them know you have selected our group. If you deliver at one of the hospitals where our pediatricians round in the newborn nurseries, we will visit you and your new baby within the first 24 hours of life. Even if you deliver elsewhere, we will gladly accept your child as a patient.

Newborn Visit

In accordance with the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics, we like to have your baby’s first check-up about 2 to 3 days after you get home from the hospital. This visit is crucial for the evaluation of feeding progress, hydration, and management of expected weight loss. Most parents find this visit to be a reassuring one for all. We also recommend an appointment with our lactation consultant to discuss feeding progression.

Insurance

For newborns, you have thirty days to enroll your child under your health insurance policy.
