Although our physicians strive to avoid surgery whenever possible, the providers are committed to staying on the forefront of the latest medical developments. We continue to research and study the current techniques in gynecological surgery so that we can present patients with the best treatment options available for their unique situation.
Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery
There are a variety of techniques that a surgeon can use in minimally invasive surgery to operate with less injury to the body than with open surgery. These techniques are safer than open surgery, require less recovery time, and allow patients to heal with less scarring and pain. Minimally invasive gynecological surgery is usually done on an outpatient basis. For cases that require surgical intervention, we use state-of-the-art techniques, such as laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures. With minimally invasive surgery, we are able to maximize accuracy and enhance visualization as we operate.
Laparoscopy
With laparoscopy, surgery is performed through one or more small incisions, using small tubes and a miniature video camera and surgical instruments. Laparoscopic surgery is typically performed in an outpatient surgical facility.
In-Office Surgery
In-office surgery is also an option offered for many procedures. Hysteroscopy, D&C, and endometrial ablation may be performed in the office in many cases, utilizing anesthesia. This allows our patients to avoid the cost and inconvenience of the hospital. More importantly, our patients can return to their lives quickly and with minimal interruption while experiencing less pain. Depending on the situation, minimally invasive procedures may be recommended for:
- Irregular or heavy menstruation
- Removal of uterine or cervical polyps
- Hysteroscopic IUD removal
- Cervical Cryotherapy
- Endometrial Biopsy
